Thermal Management of X-ray Optics There is an immediate opening for a postdoctoral research position in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Illinois, Chicago for research involving the development of high heat load optical substrates. In order to minimize the undesirable thermal distortions resulting from high heat load incident beams on some optical substrates, it is necessary to develop appropriate substrate geometry and cooling strategies, a process that also involves optimization studies. This research requires thermal and structural analysis, both analytically and numerically. Finite element method is used for numerical computations. The qualified candidate should have extensive experience in thermal and structural analysis and demonstrable skill is working with ANSYS software used in this work. General mechanical engineering and / or physics background is helpful and a background in optics is particularly desirable.
