      Sr. Financial AnalystThe Senior Financial Analyst leads the budgeting and finance activities for the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine. Coordinates the annual budget planning process, including preparation of budget revisions and the submission of annual budgets. Manages financial transactions involving clinical, joint agreement funds, general funds, federal and/or private grants and contracts, and gift and discretionary accounts. Performs comprehensive analyses in order to improve the division?s operational and financial effectiveness. This position reports to the Senior Administrative Manager of Nephrology.  Primary duties and responsibilities: ? Coordinates the annual budget planning process, including preparation of budget revisions and the submission of annual budgets. ? Perform analysis on year-to-date budget performance, investigate variances and provides justification as requested. ? Develop and assist in developing business plans for revenue enhancement or new lines of business. ? Evaluate the financial performance of existing programs and create profit and loss statements for programs or individual faculty. ? Monitor clinical charges and payments. Resolve inconsistencies and serve as point of contact on these issues. ? Monitor expenditures on general, clinical, and unrestricted accounts so that account balances are maintained. ? Extract financial data from various accounting and information systems and perform financial and cost accounting analysis of data. ? Interpret data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or forecasting probable future conditions.  ? Review management reports summarizing divisional financial status for clinical and non-sponsored accounts. ? Authorize payment of invoices and reconcile expenses posted to appropriate accounts. ? Invoice hospital and external affiliate entities for services; ensure revenue is received by tracking and following up on invoices. ? Reconcile division?s telephone charges, delivery charges, copy machine charges and other charges/invoices. ? Perform cost transfers as needed to balance budgets and accounts. ? Communicate with appropriate internal and external administrative offices to ensure that established procedures are followed. Provide instruction and answer questions relative to budget procedures and serve as liaison between the Division and the Department of Medicine. ? Uses various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports. ? Help to resolve funding shortfalls. ? As needed, assists in grant financial planning and cost analysis. ? Work with the staff of Nephrology to develop automated billing techniques to improve the billing process and streamline reimbursement. ? Work on special projects for the Division Chief and Senior Administrative Manager as required. Qualifications: Bachelor?s degree in finance, accounting, or other related field required. Five years progressively responsible related financial/accounting experience required. Master's in a related field may substitute for experience and additional experience may substitute for education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.  Advanced knowledge in the use of financial software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing required. Strong organizational skills, self motivation, and excellent communication skills. Posses excellent problem solving skills.  JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
