      Financial AnalystManages financial transactions involving clinical, joint agreement funds, general funds, federal and/or private grants and contracts, and gift and discretionary accounts for the Viral Oncology Program, Community Programs, and Oncology Administration Offices. Performs comprehensive analysis and projections, relating to business or research trends to improve Departmental operational and financial effectiveness. Oversees the development and monitoring of clinical, joint agreement funds, general funds, and gift and discretionary budgets. Assists in grant financial planning and cost analysis. Analyzes financial data to ensure efficient use of resources. Ensures compliance with university and/or agency regulations and restrictions. This position reports to the Senior Financial Manager.  Specific Duties and Responsibilities:  Financial: ? Plan and conduct complex studies to determine the cost of business for departmental research programs. Analyze results and recommend necessary budget adjustments, and cost effective measures to the Program Directors and Center leadership. ? Analyze complex financial data and extract and define relevant information using the various accounting systems and communicate necessary information to the Program Directors, and Center leadership. ? Interpret the data to determine prior fiscal year performances and project future financial trends for current fiscal year and beyond. ? Review costs and perform cost benefit analysis on all clinical trial agreements within research programs and identify budget issues and provide fiscally responsible solutions to the Investigators, Program Directors and Center leadership. ? Perform complex statistical, cost, and financial analysis of data reported in the various accounting systems. ? Develop financial reports to aid in the development of fiscal year clinical, joint agreement funds, general funds, and gift and discretionary funds budgets.  ? Analyze and interpret fiscal budget patterns and project future expenditures and revenue streams for all the clinical areas within the research programs and administration. ? Interpret and analyze departmental All Funds and identify over expenditures and communicate information to Program Directors and Administration. ? Develop complex financial reports for forecasting, and trending to assist the Program Directors and administration in developing business plans for new and existing clinical and/or research programs within the department. ? Communicate with appropriate internal and external administrative offices to ensure that established procedures are followed. Provide instruction and answer questions relative to budget procedures and serve as liaison between the Program leadership, Oncology Administration, SOM Business Office, other SOM Departments, and other unit areas. ? Monitor and approve departmental expenditures throughout the fiscal year. On a monthly basis, ensures the review and reconciliation of expenditure statements for the research programs sponsored, general funds, gift and discretionary accounts.. ? Assist with review of petty cash replenishments and periodic audits to ensure the department is in compliance with JHU regulations.  Information Systems:  ? Designs complex financial reports utilizing the Hopkins One accounting system data and assists in the dissemination of information in various formats to the Programs Collaborates in the design of automated reporting tools, such as web-based management reporting systems (Sharepoint) for financial and payroll data reports. ? Performs complex statistical, cost, and financial analysis of data reported in the various information systems. Creates integrated financial reports for the Program Directors and Administration. Develops financial reports for forecasting, trending, and results analysis.  Administrative:  ? Works in formal and informal forums with departmental personnel in issues related to Grant administration, and financial management. ? Applies a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; verifies documents for completeness and compliance with government and private agencies. ? Identifies weak or non-existent administrative processes and works with leadership to develop corrective action plans. Performs financial analysis and reviews procedures and systems to determine appropriate solutions. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field required. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.  Three years progressively responsible related financial/accounting experience required. Advance knowledge in the use of financial software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing required. Familiarity with SAP (Hopkins One) R3 applications and BW reporting strongly preferred.  JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
