Sr. Financial Analyst Plans and conducts complex studies to improve operational and financial effectiveness of the Department of Oncology and the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. Performs complex statistical, cost and financial analyses of financial reports and health care data, and prepares subsequent narrative analysis for management. Utilizes knowledge of the Johns Hopkins University, Johns Hopkins Hospital and State of Maryland data and financial accounting systems, including the IDX System, Datamart, EIS and the HSCRC data base, among others. This position will provide information to senior management of the Department of Oncology and leadership of JHM to support decisions regarding new programming, resource allocation and cost analyses. Essential Job Functions: Independently plans and conducts complex studies to determine cost and outcomes of business activities on a monthly, annual and ad hoc basis. Recommends budget adjustments, system changes, and other cost improvement/profit improvement measures. ? Reviews costs and performs cost benefit analysis related to projects and/or programs. ? Performs complex statistical, cost, financial analysis of data reported in the various accounting and data base systems. ? Develops various monthly, annual and ad hoc reports for trending, forecasting and results analysis. ? Records, classifies and summarizes data flow from various systems ? Interprets financial transactions, data runs and reports for users who must make economic or business decisions, including the Department Chairman, the Chief Administrative Officer and the Assistant Administrator of Finance and JHM leadership in a timely, concise and accurate way. Presents spreadsheets, charts and graphs in a professional manner. ? Applies a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; verifies documents for completeness and compliance with government and private agencies. ? Develops a working knowledge of the Oncology product line to be used in determining the validity and veracity of data analysis ? Uses and learns the use of various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports. ? Other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor Qualifications: Bachelor?s degree in finance, accounting, or other related field required. Five years progressively responsible related financial experience required. Advanced knowledge in the use of financial software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing required. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. On a regular and continuous basis, exercises administrative judgment and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people, costs, and/or quality of service within the functional area, especially as related to the accuracy and completeness of the data presented. Exchanges non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate requiring good oral and written communication skills. JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
