Healthcare Risk Management DirectorDirects operations, budget and strategic planning for an integrated, clinical enterprise risk management program. Proactively develops a data driven program to effectively manage all risk management activities, including professional liability, general liability and employment liability risk management, claims management and proactive programs designed to reduce the cost of risk to UC San Diego Health Sciences. Provides strategic vision as a risk management consultant to the organization in order to drive sustainable improvement initiatives. Works proactively with staff and physicians to achieve risk management best practices. Directs the department's management, tracking, trending and analysis of claims and adverse event data. Serves as the Risk Management liaison to all clinical departments, hospital accreditation & licensing and the organization's quality improvement/performance improvement plan. Directs the Medical Risk Management Committee and the Medical Center Allocation Committee. Directs the investigation and coordination of risk management intervention following patient harm events and hospital errors. Assists the Chief Risk Officer decrease the cost of liability risk by reducing the frequency and severity of avoidable liability claims. QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field; a minimum of five (5) years of experience in Risk Management, Quality, or Healthcare operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Knowledge of regulatory requirements through The Joint Commission and California Department of Public Health Services. - Ability to interpret claims and insurance underwriting data and make and implement improvement recommendations. - Ability to work proactively with staff and physicians to achieve risk management best practices. - Strong organizational information and management skills including database management experience. - Strong problem solving skills. - Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and be able to articulate complex ideas for all levels of audiences. - A self-starter who is accountable and requires minimal direction and supervision; a person who is open to new ideas; and a creative and flexible individual who is comfortable working in a large, complex organization. - Personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability. - Demonstrated knowledge of personnel management and labor relations and demonstrated ability to apply clinical and business judgment, management concepts, and counseling for all personnel on daily operational issues. PREFERRED - Clinical experience in nursing, healthcare administration or related field. - Law degree or advance degree (Masters in Health Law, Healthcare Administration, MBA or MPH).
