Assistant Director for AdvisingThe University Honors Program (UHP) is seeking a dynamic, collaborative leader to serve as Assistant Director for Advising. The person chosen will be responsible for overseeing advising initiatives and programs that promote and advance Honors student success. The Assistant Director for Advising oversees the activities of ten advisers, who support the academic success of over 2,400 honors students across the Twin Cities campus. UHP Leadership: - Provides advising vision, leadership, and systematic and comprehensive advising planning for the unit - Anticipates short and long term advising issues in UHP and formulates plans for addressing them - Represents UHP on the Council of Undergraduate Education - Represents UHP at all campus-wide advising meetings and maintains working relationships with collegiate Student Services units across the Twin Cities campus - Represents UHP with other groups on and off campus as requested Administration: - Serves as UHP liaison to Human Resources - Responsible for all UHP HR matters related to P&A academic advising personnel, including (but not limited to) annual staff evaluations and promotion recommendations, hiring and training of new advising staff, as well as consideration of flextime requests - Contributes to the preparation of periodic reports on UHP activities - Evaluates and contributes to the development of UHP academic policies and processes - Provides UHP administration and staff with quantitative and qualitative reports related to student services - Manages annual Post-Freshman/Transfer application process Academic Advising Team Supervision, Management, and Development: - Provides direct supervision for a team of ten full-time advisors, including coordinating caseload and advising assignment - Promotes an atmosphere of collaboration and mutual respect among UHP advising staff - Oversees the work of the advising, orientation and programming groups - Meets regularly with UHP Director for consultation on advising matters and planning - Manages daily advising services and special projects as needed - Manages annual student file review process - Coordinates Latin Honors and degree clearance processes Student Advising: - Advises a limited caseload of UHP students from Orientation through graduation Assessment: - Collaborates with the Director, Associate Directors, UHP staff and Vice-Provost's staff in the development of assessment tools appropriate to the program's mission Required/Preferred Qualifications: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Master's degree - Five years of full-time college-level academic advising experience at a four-year institution - Three years of administrative experience, including supervisory and staff management experience - Demonstrated experience in academic program development and assessment - Demonstrated experience interpreting and working with details of complex policies and processes - Outstanding oral and written communication skills, team-building and interpersonal skills - Demonstrated ability to work tactfully and effectively with a variety of individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives - Familiarity with the technology used in student services daily operations and for reporting PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Doctorate degree Job Type: Full Time Contact: University of Minnesota Twin Cities Minneapolis, MN United States
