      Assistant Director of Development, Corporate & Foundation Relations The University Development and Alumni Relations Office (UDARO) of The New School is seeking an experienced development professional to play a critical role in supporting our fundraising efforts with a particular focus on foundations and corporations.  The Assistant Director’s primary responsibility will be the development and execution of compelling proposals and sponsorship requests in support of The New School for Social Research, a graduate program that provides an education grounded in history and informed by a legacy of critical thought and civic engagement  The successful candidate will demonstrate a high degree of intellectual curiosity and an appreciation for civic engagement and progressive ideals.  The Assistant Director will partner actively with faculty and academic leaders to gain an understanding of academic priorities of the division and the faculty and craft compelling and persuasive proposals in support of them.  In addition, s/he will work closely with colleagues in the offices of Finance, Communications, General Counsel, and the Provost’s Office.  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  • Identifies new funding opportunities by maintaining a network of internal and external relationships, following the press, tracking media clippings and RFPs. • Cultivates existing and new relationships with program officers from foundations and corporations that are strong prospects for funding • Facilitates contact between corporate and foundation officers and academic leaders • Solicits grants, gifts, and sponsorships from private funders in order to meet annual revenue goals • Writes and edits a high volume of compelling proposals and LOIs focusing primarily on opportunities of $25,000+ • Works collaboratively with development colleagues to plan production schedules, and assure that all submission and reporting deadlines are met • Works with various faculty members and staff to develop short-term and long-term fundraising strategies • Works with colleagues across the Office of Development and Alumni Relations in support of the university’s goals • Assists with special projects and performs other related duties as required  Requirements:  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in the social sciences preferred. • Two to four years of fundraising experience required, preferably with demonstrated experience in corporate and foundation relations • Superior research and writing skills; and an established record of successful grant and proposal writing are essential to success in this position. • Strong project management skills and attention to detail are necessary. • Excellent communication, interpersonal, management and computer skills required. • An appreciation for strategic priorities of major national and local foundations. • Ability to define goals and take initiative while working collaboratively in a team environment. • Professional demeanor and presentation • Strong work ethic.   In addition to a dynamic and progressive work environment, The New School offers a competitive benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, retirement plans, flexible spending accounts and a tuition waiver.
