Assistant Physicist - X-Ray Sciences The 1-ID beamline carries out world-leading synchrotron research relevant to both basic and applied scientific disciplines and is part of the X-ray Science Division of the APS. In this position, you will be responsible for planning and implementing synchrotron radiation research at 1-ID in support of high-energy x-ray scattering and imaging programs. This includes designing, constructing, and operating highly specialized beamline and end-station equipment, including focusing optics, detectors, and in situ sample environments. You will be expected to implement scientific methods, advanced instrumentation, and/or x-ray analysis algorithms. Collaborative research with internal and external research scientists is encouraged. Within 5 years of initial appointment, you must develop all or part of an R&D program of interest to goals of the Division.  The Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory is one of five national synchrotron radiation light sources supported by the U.S. Department of Energys Office of Science. The APS is the source of the Western Hemispheres brightest high-energy x-ray beams for research in virtually every scientific discipline. More than 3,500 scientists representing universities, industry, and academic institutions from every U.S. state and several foreign nations visit the APS each year to carry out applied and basic research in support of the BES mission to understand, predict, and ultimately control matter and energy at the electronic, atomic, and molecular levels in order to provide the foundations for new energy technologies and to support DOE missions in energy, environment, and national security.  Argonne National Laboratory seeks solutions to pressing national problems in science and technology. The nation's first national laboratory, Argonne conducts leading-edge basic and applied scientific research in virtually every scientific discipline. Argonne researchers work closely with researchers from hundreds of companies, universities, and federal, state and municipal agencies to help them solve their specific problems, advance America's scientific leadership and prepare the nation for a better future.  Argonne is a U.S. Department of Energy laboratory managed by UChicago Argonne, LLC. Argonnes site is approximately 25 miles southwest of Chicago on a beautiful 1500-acre campus-like environment.  Interested candidates should upload a detailed CV, along with a list of publications and the names and addresses of three references, when applying through the Argonne website. More information about beamline scientific programs can be found at: http://www.aps.anl.gov/Sectors/Sector1.  Argonne is an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity in our workforce.    Argonne is an equal opportunity employer, and we value diversity in our workforce.   Contact:       Argonne National Laboratory Lemont, IL  United States
