      Vice President for Student AffairsOhio University seeks nominations and applications for a critical member of its senior leadership team—the Vice President for Student Affairs. The successful candidate will be called upon to make major contributions to the continued success of a noted public university that aims to become the nation’s best transformative learning community. As a result of the passage of a $977.5 million capital plan, which includes significant funding for residential facilities, the new Vice President will have the unprecedented opportunity to create a 21st century living/learning community that will stand as an exemplar for all institutions of higher education. The new Vice President must be an individual who is passionate about working with students on all facets of their development. She/he must be invested in creating an exceptional partnership with the university’s academic leadership to collaboratively create a comprehensive curricular and co-curricular learning experience for students.  Established in 1804, the University is the oldest public institution of higher learning in the state of Ohio and the first in the Northwest Territory. Situated in the scenic Appalachian foothills of Southeastern Ohio, its classic residential campus in Athens is one of the most attractive in the nation. The University also encompasses five regional campuses, which provide important educational opportunities for a growing, non-traditional student population.  A comprehensive, national university, with over 17,000 undergraduate students on the Athens campus, Ohio University offers a distinctive, high quality undergraduate education. Ohio University is committed to providing a diverse educational environment and to serving the communities in which its campuses are located.  The Vice President for Student Affairs serves as the University’s senior administrator providing leadership and direction for the holistic growth and development of students. Reporting to the President, the Vice President oversees programs, services, and facilities designed to create a supportive learning environment that is strategically aligned with the University’s academic plan. The Vice President for Student Affairs is responsible for the oversight of 112 staff, 55 graduate assistants, and 964 student staff in the following departments: Campus Involvement Center, Campus Recreation, Career Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Event Services, Office of the Dean of Students, Residential Housing, and the Office of Community Standards and Responsibility. In addition, the Vice President for Student Affairs will directly manage a Division budget over $60 million and be engaged in a dynamic process of master facilities planning.  Applicants will have an earned doctorate at the time of appointment, a record of dynamic and visionary accomplishments with a deep understanding of the mission and functions of student affairs in a large comprehensive university, and experience working collaboratively with academic affairs. Successful candidates will bring to the position a high degree of energy and integrity; experience in strategic planning and financial management including budget and resource development; the ability to work with diverse constituents; knowledge of student development theory, current issues, and trends in student affairs; interest in external fundraising; experience in designing, undertaking, and applying an assessment based approach to Student Affairs programming and practices; extensive supervisory experience; and excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.  Review of applications will begin on April 9, 2012 and will continue until the position is filled.
