      PROVOST APPLICATIONS DEVELOPERThe Provost IT Division is responsible for all IT operations of the UCSD Undergraduate College Provost's office and its administrative constituencies. This medium-sized enterprise includes over 200 users and 300+ supported machines with operations that touch the greater majority of all campus departments. Supported departments include the IT operations of Academic, Business, and Student Affairs and any subset of entities administratively supported by those departments. The Provost IT Division also houses several web applications, which have campus-wide impact and facilitate the core operations of the UCSD Undergraduate College Administration and some UCSD campus core functions.  The Provost Applications Developer/Administrator has primary responsibility for the multiple applications developed and maintained by the department. This includes enhancement, remanufacture, and development of all departmental applications. This position is responsible for: administrative database applications; hybrid applications that link multiple databases, websites, email and other electronic systems; and the design, development and implementation of web-based portal applications and general support of the Provost web presence. Responsible for the local Provost shadow database of the central UCSD Data Warehouse, its downloads, accuracy, and timely information. The position is also responsible for gathering and special reporting of student record data from the data warehouse for college and needs. Requires liaison and coordination with multiple entities both inside and outside Provost jurisdiction in order to facilitate development and maintenance of Provost applications. Provide assistance on an as-needed basis for local college applications at designated levels determined by resource constraints.  ~~ Some work may be required outside of normal UCSD business hours.  QUALIFICATIONS   -  Extremely strong applications programming skills and design theory in PhP,MySQL, advanced CSS and Javascript and use of JSON objects. Experience in PhP frameworks (e.g. Zend). Programming ability with Object Oriented methods and languages.  -  Experience in advanced arrays management within applications. Experience writing code on a Unix system. Knowledge and use of MVC architecture in apps development.  -  Web design skills for efficient and aesthetic design and user interface. Strong experience and use of web languages including but not limited to HTML, XML, DHTML, and AJAX.  -  Ability to install, run, enhance, and evaluate code written by other programmers. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of database management. Knowledge of relational database practices.  -  Extensive knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL). Strong background and experience with MySQL and IBM/DB2 query languages.  -  Ability to create applications which are cross-platform, (PC Win 2.2, XP,7/Mac OS X) and cross-browser for industry accepted browsers (e.d. currently IE, Safari, and Firefox) and which can be accessed across the network or can be delivered in a variety of multi-media including DVD, CD-ROM, video, and print.  -  Experience with Adobe Photoshop; experience working with images (e.g., scaning, color correcting, retouching, selecting color depth, and optimizing color palettes.)  -  Ability to train others with respect to in-house applications and campus web initiatives.
