Cincinnati Children's Research Foundation Research Associate/Staff Scientist Position in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology The Division of Biomedical Informatics at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center/University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is recruiting a Research Staff Scientist who wishes to work in a hybrid technical support/collaborative research environment in the area of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and to focus on the analysis of data derived from next generation sequencing and other high-throughput genomic technologies. Responsibilities: This individual will assume a key role in the Genome Informatics Core to provide end-user support that leverages high-throughput NexGen sequencing-based analytical pipelines for large-scale genomic analyses using data from both RNA and DNA-derived analyses. Primary goals for this position are to be a strong interface between Investigators in laboratory, and clinical disciplines and bioinformatics staff and faculty to enable the systematic identification of gene functions and regulatory mechanisms responsible for normal and disease biology in humans and model organisms. Requirements: Candidates must have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD with formal training in bioinformatics and computer science and in addition a desire to gain a solid understanding of genetic and biological mechanisms. Familiarity with gene expression and gene mutation data formats that derive from microarray and high throughput DNA sequencing systems is strongly recommended. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in the post-alignment stage of analyses of the following types of experiments: ChIP-seq, mRNA-seq, miR-seq, sequence variation, and de novo genome assembly. Hands-on experience with biological network-based analysis methodologies and strategies is highly desirable. Success at this position will come from a passion to enable the success of others.
