Cardio-vascular Research Institute, Yonsei University College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea On-site Evaluation and Outcome Prediction for Cardio-Vascular Interventions with Hybrid Imaging Systems

Cardio-vascular Research Institute, Yonsei University College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea  On-site Evaluation and Outcome Prediction for Cardio-Vascular Interventions with Hybrid Imaging Systems  This project of 5 years for the research and development of a hybrid imaging system for on-site evaluation and outcome prediction for cardio-vascular interventions will be done by College of Medicine, Yonsei University in collaboration with INFINITT Co. They are equipped with the state-of-the-art CT system (Aquilion ONE, Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation) and an angio system (INFX8000C). The former provides 3-D anatomic images with 320 slices in less than a half second of 0.5 mm slice thickness. It combines with the angio system to enable real-time roadmap for intervention and a number of new applications which have not been possible but will be with the advent of fast wide-detector area CT systems, such as non-invasive FFR, myocardium viability test, stent planning, and so on.  Job Descriptions  A successful candidate will be a strong team player with a good command of English and an energetic, independent individual committed to research, with rich experience of (preferentially Microsoft Visual ) C++ programming and of designing, implementing and testing vision algorithm. A PhD degree in the area of Computer Vision and Medical Image Analysis will be preferred. Presentations and publications in prestigious conferences and peer-reviewed journals will be of significant advantage. Good understanding of image segmentation/registration and multiple view geometry is desirable. Prior knowledge and experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and fluid structure interface (FSI) is not required, but a willingness to learn basics in these fields is necessary. As one of the today’s hottest topics, high-performance computing and cloud computing will be also of importance for our project. He/she will develop and implement algorithms for enhancement, segmentation, registration of/betweem images of various modalities, such as 3-D CT images, 2-D fluoroscopic image sequences, IVUS, or OCT. Because on-site evaluation is a time-critical task, algorithm acceleration using GPU systems or network/cloud computing is another major part of his/her job.  How to apply Applicants must provide a detailed CV, a personal statement and the names and email addresses of two referees. In the first instance please contact Dr. Shim, Hackjoon by email at hjshim@yuhs.ac.  Yonsei Cardio-vascular Research Institutes The Cardiovascular Research Institute conducts basic and clinical research for the purpose of preventing cardiovascular disease, developing new therapeutic approaches and thereby promoting the health of population. The main areas of research are cardiovascular genetics, signal transductions, proteomics, organ transplantation, and stem cell therapy for audiogenesis. Ongoing projects are cardiovascular genetics, gene and stem cell therapy for revascularization, identification of the molecular mechanism of atherosclerosis, development of antithrombotic agents, development of cardiovascular device, and organ preservation. The institute also conducts the clinical trials to evaluate the new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches and operates educational programs on cardiovascular research for basic scientists, physicians, and students. This institute is very active in cardiovascular research, collaborating with other international research institutes and holding several international symposiums  Yonsei University College of Medicine Yonsei Medical College enrolls 150 students every year, has more than 400 full time faculty members and over 900 attending staff. It operates a 2,000-bed teaching hospital equipped with modern therapeutic and diagnostic facilities and handles more than 3,000 patients a day in its outpatient clinic. The excellence of the college in the area of research and education was finally confirmed by the first national survey of medical schools conducted in 1996. Yonsei University College of Medicine was singled out as the only medical school to receive the highest rating in each of the 6 survey categories. Yonsei University College of Medicine strives to grow continuously with a spirit of Creativity, Christianity, and Cooperation and it maintains its high standard of education, research and service for the benefit of Korea.
