Clinical Research Project Coordinator Serve as a clinical study coordinator for long term multiple research protocols examining the genetic causes of neurodevelopmental disorders, such as; epilepsy, autism and mental retardation in children. Responsible for recruitment of human subjects, obtaining and evaluating medical records, MRI's, and performing intake evaluations from clinicians throughout the world. Maintain direct communications with physician collaborators located worldwide. Coordinate the collection of patient blood, saliva and DNA samples. Coordinate the processing and storage of these samples for subsequent genetic experiments. Design and execute new methods for patient recruitment by interacting with electronic medical records systems Design, create and coordinate all Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications for submission to the human subject?s committee office for protocol approval. Design, create and maintain patient database for each protocol. Contribute to the preparation of grants, presentations, and manuscripts. Provide work direction in the duties of other lab personnel and students.   -  Must work overtime as needed and variation of work schedule.  -  Must travel to patient locations locally (San Diego County), nationally and internationally.    QUALIFICATIONS   -  Theoretical knowledge of Human Genetics, Genealogy, and/or Developmental Neuroanatomy. Basic medical knowledge of disease, pathogenesis and syndromology.  -  Minimum one year experience in working directly with Human Research Protection Programs in designing and implementing research protocols.  -  Experience interviewing potential volunteers for research studies. Knowledge of research study policies and procedures. Working knowledge of genetic issues and experience discussing with families.  -  Demonstrated experience working with biological specimens, e.g. blood. Experience in sterile-technique, Universal Precautions and molecular biology techniques.  -  Familiar with genetic causes of developmental brain diseases, epilepsy, and mental retardation in children.  -  Knowledge of statistics and previous experience managing patient databases. Previous experience managing computerized data bases and ability to trouble shoot and optimize systems.  -  Strong computer experience with Windows, Mac OS, word-processing, spreadsheet, databases, and presentation, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat.     Job Type: Full Time  Contact information:  University of California, San Diego San Diego      Contact:       University of California - San Diego La Jolla, CA  United States
